Rafael Triboli

Rafael Triboli is a self-taught artist based in São Paulo, focusing on exploring materialities potential through experimental construction techniques. His work combines traditional craftsmanship with modernist ideas. Triboli is particularly interested in working with wood, a key material in Brazilian design.

He began experimenting with woodworking during the pandemic, creating pieces like hand-hewn mahogany and imbuia chairs and tables, inlaid with wax and bronze details. Over time, he expanded his work to include other furniture pieces, such as daybeds and folding screens, continuing to refine his approach to form and function.

Triboli’s work has garnered international recognition and is included in the permanent collections of major institutions such as the Denver Art Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA), reflecting the growing global interest in his unique approach to con temporary Brazilian design.

While he acknowledges the influence of Brazilian modernism, Triboli is committed to developing his own voice, pushing the boundaries of design and questioning traditional approaches. His studio in Barra Funda, São Paulo, serves as a space for ongoing experimentation, where he seeks to reveal the true character of materials and create pieces that balance both practicality and beauty.
