Uma

Uma Shannon is a freelance artist and a dancer based in Brooklyn, New York USA. They received their BA from Bennington College, Bennington Vermont.

For over a decade, Uma has been immersed in contemporary dance techniques and somatic practices, including the Alexander Technique, the Feldenkrais Method, and other forms of movement exploration.

Since 2016, Uma has been actively involved in queer online dance spaces, finding inspiration in the diverse artists who engage in these platforms. They constantly challenge conventional dance practices and performance, seeing them as a means to materialize ideas, construct new narratives, and interact with their surroundings.

Shannon grounds their work in a broad understanding of movements both within and beyond the world of dance. They use various mediums and a wide range of materials, all seamlessly integrated into their movement-based approach.
