Pat’s Pants began as a creative collaboration between Pat Hoblin and Cassandra Mayela, serving as an artistic outlet to explore different styles, dyes, and techniques in clothing. What started as a playful concept—after a comment about a pair of eccentric pants he was wearing—quickly evolved into something bigger.

Pat Hoblin , a Brooklyn-based artist, has always had a foot in multiple worlds. Growing up between Long Island and New York City, his early life was shaped by the energy and diversity of both places. Skateboarding became the catalyst that introduced him to a wide array of communities, each adding a layer to his creative identity.

Hoblin discovered skateboarding at a young age, initially inspired by one of his sister’s boyfriends, who had a skateboard. Pat vividly recalls being captivated by the sparkle of the grip tape. This fascination soon blossomed into a full-fledged passion. He received his first skateboard at around 8 or 9 years old, but it wasn’t until Pat turned 11 that he began to skate more seriously. By age 12, he was fully immersed in the vibrant New York skate scene, moving seamlessly between his Long Island and city crews. The journey between these worlds wasn’t just physical—it was a passage into a broader community, where the cultural intersections of art and skateboarding became central to his life.

Hoblin’s experience in the skateboarding world didn’t just teach him tricks and balance; it gave him access to a subculture rich in visual language, style, and self-expression. By moving through diverse locations and immersing himself in the tight-knit, collaborative energy of the skate community, Pat experienced the sense of camaraderie that  formed the foundation of his identity.

“I just like the sparkle of the grip tape. I don’t know, I only remember that was my first experience with a skateboard. I was just fascinated by the sparkle of the grip tape”.

As he got older, Pat became even more deeply entrenched in the New York skate culture, and his style, both on and off the board, began to reflect the DIY ethos of the community. It was this mindset that led to the creation of Pat’s Pants, a brand born out of his desire to merge functionality, style, and skateboarding culture. Tired of ill-fitting pants that couldn’t hold up to the wear and tear of skate life, Hoblin started designing his own, crafting pants that catered to skaters’ specific needs. Durable, flexible, and stylish, Pat’s Pants quickly gained popularity not only for their practicality but also for their authenticity—every pair representing the culture from which they emerged.

Pat’s journey from skater to designer reflects his deep connection to the culture that raised him. His pants have become a symbol of the skateboarding community’s resilience, creativity, and commitment to self-expression. Just like skating itself, Pat’s Pants are all about freedom of movement, adaptability, and personal style. Pat continues to stay rooted in his first passion—skateboarding—while also evolving as a creative force, blending the worlds of fashion and skate culture into something entirely his own.

“Lately, what I love most about it is being able to share the experience with friends and people who genuinely inspire me. Collaborating on projects with artists, skaters, musicians, and creatives from all walks of life has been incredibly rewarding. It’s about supporting each other, growing together, and expanding in new directions, all while keeping the creative vision true and moving forward in the right way”.
